Berhanu is an intercultural liaison worker with Edmonton Catholic Schools. He supports the integration of newcomer immigrants into schools and life. Through interpretation/translation, needs/asset assessment and advocacy, he helps newly arrived Tigrinya and Amharic-speaking families to settle in their adopted country. Berhanu's work is informed by his lived experiences, intercultural understanding and learnings in immigrant studies. His work involves working directly with immigrant families and with schools as well as striving to positively contribute towards productive relationships between the two.
